In 1988, Richard Farley went on a shooting rampage at ESL, his former workplace, killing seven and wounding six. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1992. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is now seeking to change his sentence to life without parole.
Jim McManis and a team of McManis Faulkner lawyers represent the wife of one of Farley’s shooting victims contesting the resentencing. The Court continued a December 6 hearing to March 21, 2025, to permit additional shooting victims to be heard on the issue.
“ESL had more than 300 employees that day. They’re all victims,” McManis said following the Dec. 6 hearing. “We found 20 to 30 victims just by our initial search. With all the resources the DA has, he can’t find these people? I don’t believe it.”
McManis’ statement was aired on numerous local TV stations, including KTVU, ABC 7 News and NBC Bay Area. The firm’s involvement in the case was similarly covered on these stations’ websites.
