In his bylined article for Casino Journal titled “Casino executives should consider outside counsel during workplace investigations,” Michael Warren explains why executives should retain their own attorneys during an investigation. Michael explains that the interests of an executive and those of a company may align during good times, but diverge when confronted with workplace allegations. He states that an attorney whose sole duty is representing the executive can help protect the executive’s separate interests during the investigation.
Michael lists three other reasons for the importance of individual representation, including preparing the executive for an interview with the investigator and negotiating a favorable exit from the company, if necessary.
