Partners James McManis, William Faulkner, Elizabeth Pipkin and Michael Reedy have been named to the Northern California Super Lawyers 2018 Edition.
Northern California Super Lawyers is a Thomson Reuters rating service and publication that lists outstanding lawyers, from more than 70 practice areas, who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The objective of the Super Lawyers selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that may be used as a resource to assist in the search for legal counsel. Compiled through peer nomination and research, approximately five percent (5%) of the Northern California Bar received the distinction.
Named to the Northern California Super Lawyers list every year since 2004, McManis prepares and tries cases in the commercial, trade secrets and intellectual property arenas. A member of the trial bar for more than 50 years, he also represents individuals in a wide variety of matters, including civil rights actions, employment disputes, family law and criminal defense. McManis is an honorary bencher of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, the oldest institution of legal education in Ireland. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America, the American Bar Foundation and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. McManis received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (1967) and his B.A. in History, with Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University (1964).
A seasoned trial lawyer with significant experience in both state and federal courts in Santa Clara County, Faulkner represents businesses and individuals in complex civil litigation. In addition, he works with individuals and families in cases involving will contests, trust disputes and related issues. Faulkner is often called into family law matters when specific trial expertise is required and business concerns are involved. He also assists clients in transactional and contractual matters. He has been included in Northern California Super Lawyers in 2004 and 2006 to present. Faulkner received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (1978) and his B.A. from Stanford University (1973).
As chair of the firm’s Civil Litigation practice group, Pipkin represents Fortune 500 companies, closely held businesses, charitable institutions and individuals in a wide range of trial work, including trade secrets, complex commercial disputes, and civil rights cases. She serves on the board of trustees of the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, the largest provider of free legal services for those in need in Silicon Valley. Pipkin currently serves as a lawyer representative of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School (2001) and her B.A. from Brigham Young University (1998).
With more than 25 years of experience, Reedy represents clients in family law matters. He has extensive experience in both civil litigation and appellate law and tries cases in both state and federal court. In addition he handles appeals in the Ninth Circuit and the California Court of Appeal on matters involving civil rights, constitutional issues, business litigation, land use, and family law. Reedy also has experience handling anti-SLAPP matters and is a frequent speaker on the topic. He serves on the Santa Clara County Bar Association’s Appellate Courts Committee. Reedy earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law (1992) and his B.A. from Stanford University (1978).
